The Gingerbread Hotel sits just yards from the sea overlooking the beautiful harbour of Admiralty Bay in Port Elizabeth. Gingerbread is owned by the same well-known Bequia family as its neighbour the Frangipani, and both have become an integral part of local life along the Belmont Walkway which fronts both properties. Visitors and locals alike drop into the cafe and gardens of Gingerbread to enjoy delicious homemade cakes and ice creams with a cooling drink or delicious coffee. Lunches are casual and the restaurant serves dinner each evening with a variety of local dishes and some oriental specialities as well. There are nine rooms altogether at Gingerbread — the favourites are the Upper Suites with magnificent four-poster beds and terraces overlooking the ocean, and the lower suites also with terraces and sea views. All the rooms have little kitchenettes but there a dozen or more choices of places to eat within a short walk of the hotel. One suite has air-conditioning and all rooms have TV. Gingerbread provides a warm welcome and good, comfortable accommodation in a superb location within easy reach of all that Bequia has to offer. Shops, restaurants, cafes, the local market and the harbour are just a stroll away and a cheap ride on a water taxi for a couple of minutes will take you to the glorious beaches of Lower Bay and Princess Margaret Beach. The beautiful hotel building was crafted by Bequian artisans and its Gingerbread fretwork carpentry gives the hotel its name.
